Colonized

The goal of this art project is to dignify and praise the feminine figure as a key part of human history, and to underscore women’s essential role in the development of today’s civilization.
By using the trans photography technique in “Colonized”, I wanted to give these unknown women the visibility they never had.

The recovery of old photographs of women taken in the mid-19th century, the addition of precious contemporary textiles and silk to the original photographs, the digital retouching and the collage technique are the main elements of these big-format portraits (120 X 100 cm).
The quest of women from the past serves to also visualize women in the present and in the future. I like to use the term transphotography because it “transforms” the images and “transfers” them to the present times.
